Editors’ Note
Some of the essays in this anthology were presented as papers at a seminar organized in November 2011, by the Jadavpur University Society for American Studies in collaboration with Jogamaya Devi College, Kolkata, and later published in the form of a booklet. The present book is an expanded and improved version of the previous publication and, we hope, makes for better reading.
Much of the credit for the publication goes to Smt. Debopriya Dey and Shri Parantap Chakraborty to whom we remain grateful. We are also deeply indebted to Shri Pinaki De for designing the cover of this book.
